Recording Macros in Vim

qa = Start recording a macro. The macro will be named “a”

(make your edits)

q = Stop recording the macro

Now you can execute the macro with the command @a. You can even specify how many times to execute the macro like this 100@a which will execute the macro 100 times.

Incrementing Numbers in Vim

ctrl-a = Increment the number under the cursor
ctrl-x = Decrement the number under the cursor

Additional Details

If there’s no number under the cursor Vim will move the cursor forward to the next number on the line and increment it
Works with decimal, octal and hex numbers by default
Can be configured to work with letters too (see :help nrformats for details)
